Seussical

Hofstra University, 2016

written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty

directed by Peter Charney

choreography by Gina Arfi

music direction by Andy Abrams

Through a special agreement with MTI, I reimagined Ahrens and Flaherty's Seussical for a touring cast of eight actors, aimed at an audience of college-aged students. We removed the character of The Cat in the Hat and stripped away all the visuals typically associated with Dr. Seuss. Instead, we focused on Jojo, Horton, and the journey they lead us on, taking us away from the "Waiting Place" and toward an imaginative world of make-believe. Our production was collaboratively created using various ensemble theatre methods, including devising, arts and crafts, clowning, and puppetry.

We showed all the older kids in our audience that just because we are getting older, it doesn't mean we ever have to fully grow up.
