Peter Charney (he/him) is a generative director for the stage and screen. His work seeks to explore the unknowns of existence, ignite the human imagination, and honor the collective experience of storytelling.
Peter is the co-creator and original director of A Eulogy for Roman, which premiered to critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe and had a sold-out run at 59E59 Theaters (2024 Drama Desk Nomination). He is a resident director for SERIALS at The Tank and serves as the show director of the recurring 54 Below series The Best of Broadway Puppetry. Peter's additional stage directing credits include the original musical Bright and Brave (Dixon Place), an actor-musician interpretation of Spring Awakening (The Space at Irondale), and a collegiate touring reimagining of Seussical (Hofstra University). Peter has also had the privilege of assisting renowned directors such as Lisa Peterson, Oliver Butler, West Hyler, Whitney White, and Will Pomerantz.
Peter recently premiered his latest short film, This Means Goodnight, at Regal Union Square as part of Dances With Films. Beyond filmmaking, he is a freelance journalist covering major events such as the New York Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. He also plays a key role in live television broadcasts, assisting directors on productions including The Tony Awards, The Oscars, SNL50: The Homecoming Concert, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Peter holds a BFA in Theatre Directing from Hofstra University and is an alum of the 24 Hour Plays: Nationals and the Yale Summer Directing Intensive. He is an associate member of SDC and a proud board member of the Jamie Hulley Arts Foundation.
